We are now seeking an experienced Staff Nurse to join our team in our ExpressCare - Northwood
The Staff Nurse in the ExpressCare is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals presenting with a range of non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. This role involves clinical assessment, treatment, monitoring, and education of patients, while ensuring safety, dignity, and comfort.
Responsibilities:
Provide skilled nursing care to patients presenting with minor injuries (e.g. fractures, sprains, wounds, burns) and minor illnesses (e.g. infections, respiratory conditions, gastrointestinal complaints).
Perform clinical assessments, triage patients, and prioritise care based on acuity and clinical need.
Administer medications, dressings, and treatments in accordance with clinical guidelines and protocols.
Assist with diagnostic procedures including ECGs, wound swabs, urinalysis, and point-of-care testing.
Monitor and evaluate patient progress, escalating concerns as appropriate.
Educate patients and families on condition management, wound care, medication use, and follow-up instructions.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and clinical interventions.
Collaborate with medical, radiology, pharmacy, and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated care.
Support infection prevention and control practices within the unit.
Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical governance activities.
Assist in recruitment activities, including mentoring new staff and participating in the onboarding processes.
Respond to emergency situations and provide immediate nursing interventions as required.
Maintain professional development and stay updated with best practices in urgent care, minor injuries, and minor illness management.
Job requirements
Qualifications:
Registered General Nurse (RGN) with active registration with NMBI.
3 yrs postgraduate experience in general practice, A&E or minor injuries setting.
Experience in minor trauma, general medicine, paediatrics, sports medicine or orthopaedics would also be desirable as would a knowledge of the Irish healthcare system.
Advanced wound care experience (desirable)
Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
High level of organization and attention to detail.
Commitment to patient safety and continuous improvement.
